On September 8, 2011 — one year ago tomorrow — President Obama laid out a series of policy proposals known collectively as the American Jobs Act. The plan included stimulus spending in the form of immediate infrastructure investments, tax credits for working Americans and employers to encourage consumer spending and job growth, and efforts to shore up state and local budgets to prevent further layoffs of teachers, firefighters, police officers, and other public safety officials.
The American Jobs Act never became law, however, because Republicans opposed it from the start, blasting it as another form of “failed stimulus” that wouldn’t help the economy. (They ignored the fact that the first “failed stimulus,” the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, wasn’t a failure at all.) One month later, the GOP blocked the bill in the Senate, preventing the creation of more than a million jobs and the added growth that multiple economists predicted would occur if the bill passed:
–Moody’s Analytics estimated the American Jobs Act would create 1.9 million jobs and add two percent to gross domestic product.
–The Economic Policy Institute estimated it would create 2.6 million jobs and protect an addition 1.6 million existing jobs.
–Macroeconomic Advisers predicted it would create 2.1 million jobs and boost GDP by 1.5 percent.
–Goldman Sachs estimated it would add 1.5 percent to GDP.
Compare/contrast that to the numbers that Bill Clinton shared with us this week:
Is that really true? Why yes it is!"Since 1961 … our private economy has produced 66 million private-sector jobs. So what's the jobs score? Republicans 24 million, Democrats 42 (million)."
Let’s cut to the chase. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, here are the net increases in private-sector employment under each president, chronologically by party:
Republicans
Richard Nixon: Increase of 7.1 million jobs
Gerald Ford: Increase of 1.3 million jobs
Ronald Reagan: Increase of 14.7 million jobs
George H.W. Bush: Increase of 1.5 million jobs
George W. Bush: Decline of 646,000 jobs
Total: Increase of 23.9 million jobs under Republican presidents
Democrats
John F. Kennedy: Increase of 2.7 million jobs
Lyndon B. Johnson: Increase of 9.5 million jobs
Jimmy Carter: Increase of 9.0 million jobs
Bill Clinton: Increase of 20.8 million jobs
Barack Obama: Increase of 332,000 jobs
Total: Increase of 42.3 million jobs.
So the title of this post is misleading, because when it comes to Democrats V. Republicans in creating jobs - there really is NO comparison.

Global warming, green energy mandates, social justice, the priorities have changed since Clinton. Obama used stimulus as a tool to push his agenda, that is why it wasn't as successful as it could have been.

The link between people eating contaminated and spoiled food and getting sick is one of those code phrases that the Democratic Party uses to promote the idea that government can serve the people. Another form of freedom is the freedom to starve. This freedom is yet another that the Democratic Party, and the Republican Party prior to Ronald Reagan have taken away from the people. IT'S IN THE CONSTITUTION!!! Praise Jeebus that too may be restored with the Mitt Romney administration. A little famine here and there, and some kwashiorkor to motivate the kids to pay attention in school OR ELSE. Just imagine how soon things will be TRANSFORMED!!!

And when stimulus funds run out and no new jobs were created, what then? No new jobs means no extra revenue. Just delaying the cuts needed. Enter Walker to be the adult in the room.

Actually thats not true, we were able to save jobs for a while which means that those people were able to contribute to society by paying taxes and purchasing goods.
ReplyDeleteWhen the stimulus ran out, and the republicans keep blocking any chance of creating new jobs (see above) then we have a hard time climbing out of our recession(econ 101).
However the positions we are losing in the schools, and other public workers are hardly the "cuts needed". we did the "cuts needed" in schools years ago now we keep cutting arteries.....
So then you agree that the previous rounds of stimulus were nothing more than a giveaway to the local unions. Cant imagine why congress wont give him the checkbook anymore. If local governments cannot sustain themselves they will need to tighten their belt.

Your right, some of the stimulus funds were spent in the fashion that FDR used stimulus. But far to many went to companies like Solyndra, and to local governments. I know this, after village crews spent a couple of days adding a drain pipe where there was a drainage ditch on my property I asked the village manager why and he told me they are looking for more ways to spend the stimulus money they've received.

When Mitch McConnel comes out with a statement like that, I question his place in Congress and his wanting to be bipartisan: as a Democracy, we don't have one party rule.
McConnel obviously could not care less for the under- and un-employed masses, he's devoted to an idealogy that has proven to be BS as far as job creation is concerned.
Mitch probably has relatives that were plantation masters: slaves didn't need to be paid for their work, they just had to say "Yes, master," or else they would be disciplined (sometimes killed).
I greatly thank Honest Abe Lincoln for making things progress from those backwards days--McConnel forgets the GOP is known as the Party of Lincoln.
We don't need a revival of what McConnel, Jefferson Davis, David Duke, Jeff Sessions, etc. want for this country.
History is the guage of our success in this country, not how much money lines the pockets of people wanting to create another Aristocracy.
